Soulful Village Flavors

A Living Celebration of Sri Lankan Home Cooking

At Kumbuk & Wewa, we believe dining should be an authentic cultural encounter rather than a scripted buffet. Our open-air dining pavilion sits surrounded by peaceful paddy fields, where the aroma of toasted coconut, crushed cardamom, and sweet cinnamon floats on the breeze.

Every morning, noon, and evening, village women from Kumbukanda Handiya arrive to tend the live food stations. Using traditional clay pots (walang), coconut-shell spoons, and stone grinding slabs (miris gala), they craft authentic Rajarata recipes passed down across generations.

“There is no secret ingredient more powerful than a mother's hand cooking fresh food over a fragrant cinnamon-wood flame.”

Ingredients are sourced directly from our village neighbors, fresh catches from Mahaillupalla Wewa, and organic greens from local farmlands.

Our Cherished Daily Ritual

Evening Herbal Tea Under the Kumbuk Tree

As the golden twilight settles over Kumbukanda Handiya and the egrets fly back to the reeds of Mahaillupalla Wewa, our guests gather under the cooling canopy of the grand Kumbuk tree.

Here, village women serve freshly steeped Ayurvedic herbal infusions — Ranawara (Senna auriculata) for youthful glow, Belimal (Bael fruit blossom) for digestion, and Polpala (Mountain knotgrass) for cleansing vitality — accompanied by chunks of dark, sweet kitul palm jaggery.
